September Mostly working on the carving of San Francisco de Asis as the entry is due in just a few weeks. Here is the progress so far: front view, rear. One of our ornamental bushes just got ravaged by some moth larvae. They ate all the leaves off of it before I noticed the dog playing with one of the caterpillars. There were only six of the caterpillars, but they were each four inches long! I thought I would feed them to the chickens, but when I threw them into the pen, all the chickens ran away from them. Usually once something is thrown in, they all pounce on whatever it was I threw in. I surmised that the striking coloration of the larvae was a warning signal to the birds that they were either poisonous or just did not taste good. Usually animals with this type of coloration have one of these traits, or is mimicking one that does. I took them out and smashed them with rock. |
